FURTHER to a previous article informing readers of the exciting news of the planned restoration and preservation works of the significant heritage landmark of the Bascule Bridge also known as the Morfa Bridge. It is undergoing its final preparations for the lift at 7.30am (July 14th, Sunday).

Piling works are progressing well which will safely accommodate crane pads for the large crane to undertake the lift. They have been working throughout the night to complete it on time.

Brunel Way, including the footpath will be closed on the evening of Saturday (July 13th) for enabling works which are scheduled between 6pm and 10pm. along with Sunday (July 14th) from 6am to prepare for the lift of the Bascule Bridge. Pedestrians are advised to use the neighbouring pedestrian bridge. Traffic management will be present to facilitate traffic and road access around these times to the Liberty Stadium and Morfa Retail Park from the main A4217 by the Copper Quarter residential area near the Swansea Tennis Centre..

Alamein Road and Normandy Road currently has and will continue to have alternative access requirements in place and will be removed as soon as possible following Sunday (July 14th).

The contractor and the council continue to work very closely to minimise disruption as much as possible and thank you for your patience during this time.
