On Wednesday, 24/04/2019 at 08:36pm, crews from Knighton, Presteigne and Llandrindod Wells, along with a crew from Clun (Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service) attended a property fire in Rhos y Meirch, Knighton.

On arrival, firefighters rescued seven dogs from a single storey domestic property, which was well alight, before extinguishing the fire using four breathing apparatus, three hose reel jets, two 45mm main jets, ceiling hooks, a thermal imaging camera, small gear and a triple extension ladder.

The Fire Service left the incident at 01:46am and returned the following morning (25/04/2019) to dampen down hot spots within the property.

Station Manager Martyn Field, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said “The fire appeared to have originated in the attic space of the property before spreading across and destroying the roof. I must commend the efforts of the crews, who worked professionally and efficiently to secure the safety of the dogs and extinguish the fire.

The firefighters who attended this incident are On Call firefighters, who respond to emergency incidents from their homes and workplaces. We currently have vacancies for On Call Firefighters throughout Powys, therefore, if you live or work within 10 minutes of your local fire station, would like a different challenge and would like to give something back to your community, please get in touch with our recruitment team on 01267 226832 or email any enquiry you may have to personnel@mawwfire.gov.uk
