The freedom of Ceredgion for the Royal Welsh Regiment will continue with reaffirmation agreed this week and a parade planned for next year.

Cabinet members approved a request from Major Derek Adams, retired, the regimental secretary for the Royal Welsh that a reaffirmation parade be held in 2020.

At the meeting on Tuesday (April 30) council leader Cllr Ellen ap Gwynn said the first such parade had been held in Aberystwyth, the second in Cardigan, so this one should be in Aberaeron.

This was agreed by members along with reaffirmation of the freedom of the county of Ceredigion, which was granted to the regiment on February 1, 2008.

“The Royal Welsh strongly believe it to be very important to maintain their relationship with our county, as many of their soldiers, both Regular and Reserve come from Ceredigion,” a cabinet report states.

“‘The honorary Freedom of you County is a profound honour for The Royal Welsh, and we do hope that we can return to Ceredigion next year’,” it adds.
