Swimmers return triumphant from championships

CITY of Swansea Aquatics travelled to the British Championships on the 16-20th April in Glasgow in Tollcross International Pool.

Hayley Baker Head Coach of Swansea Aquatics performance programme worked with a team of 14 swimmers taking on Britons best with the competition being a qualifier for a number of summer competitions; European Junior Championships, World Junior Championships, World University Games and World Championships.

Hayley Baker was part of a team of three coaches with Adam Baker and Stuart McNarry of Swansea University and support from Swim Wales Sports Science support team delivering world-class service for the week-long competition.

Swansea Aquatics brought home an impressive medal haul and honours from Glasgow with 4 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze.

Daniel Jervis and Alys Thomas (coached by Adam Baker and  Stuart McNarry) made the British team worlds championships in Gwangju, South Korea. There were selections for the Swansea coaching team.

Head Coach Hayley Baker will lead the British camp to Italy for the World University Games and Stuart McNarry will lead the World Junior Championship British team too Hungary.

Hayley Baker celebrated the success of the British Championships by saying: “The team excelled in a week of world-class racing here in Tollcross. The coaching team were incredibly proud of everyone who raced with stand out performances for Dan [Jervis] and Alys [Thomas] taking the worlds team. We have our national competition Welsh championships in Swansea national pool to look forward to over the Easter weekend qualifiers for British National championships in the summer. We hope from the performances this week will inspire our current and next generation of swimmers coming through the programme to perform in the Welsh Championships.”

Lima White Senior Final 50 metre Backstroke BRONZE medal Transitional Final 100m Backstroke finishing 6th, Alys Thomas Senior Final 200m Freestyle finished 4th and 200m Butterfly GOLD and 100m Butterfly Senior Final GOLD, Daniel Jervis Senior Final 400m Freestyle GOLD and 1500 metres GOLD and Transition Final 200m Freestyle 4th, Lewis Fraser 50m Breaststroke Transitional Final 4th, Senior Final 50m Butterfly 23.98, Rhys Edwards 200m Butterfly Junior Final BRONZE, Joe Small 100m Backstroke Transitional final 5th place, Dan Jones 100m Freestyle Transitional Final 5th, Rhys Edwards Junior Final 100m Butterfly 4th, Aneurin Davies Junior Final 200m Breaststroke 7th, Joe Small Transitional final 200m Backstroke 8th, Daniel Jervis Transition Finals, Lewis Fraser.
