10-year-old Riley Mason Morgan gets call up for Wales in ‘World Kickboxing Championship’

TEN-year-old Riley Mason Morgan from Gorseinon, Swansea has had the honour of being selected to represent Wales in kickboxing in November 2019 at the WMAC World Championship in Bregenz, Austria.

The Welsh team will be leaving Wales on Thursday 14th November with the weigh-ins on the morning of Friday the 15th of November. The competition itself takes place over the weekend of the 16th and 17th of November.

We are proud to support Riley and help him in his quest to raise the sponsorship necessary to attend the event. He needs £500 to cover travel costs and accommodation and so we are asking our readers to get behind this devoted youngster and help him represent Wales.

Riley, a pupil at Gowerton Primary School, trains in Loughor under coaches Chris and Wendy Sparkes and the Sharks Kickboxing Club.

The training sessions which Riley attends can be intense and involve training up to 5 nights a week. At these sessions, he is trained in a mixture of disciplines which include points, kickboxing, boxing, K1 and Mixed Martial Arts.

The time-consuming training does involve much commitment from Riley but he embraces each of the disciplines with a great deal of passion. Whilst some youngsters are content with coming in from school and sitting on the sofa during the cold winter nights, Riley, in contrast, insists on his very supportive mum, taking him to all the training sessions on offer.

Riley is passionate about his sport and puts all his energy and spare time into perfecting his routines. His hard work does, however, pay off with the successes he is stacking up. Recently, for example, on a trip to Scotland for a martial arts competition, he walked away with both a silver and bronze medal. Also, at a competition last month in Ebbw Vale, Riley was victorious, winning 3 gold medals.

His mum Kate said: “he is so excited about the chance of going to represent Wales in Austria and I just really hope he gets to go because he puts everything into his training and competing.

“He is completely devoted”.
