Anglesey Menai Bridge church future to be decided as proposals assessed

PROPOSALS for the future of an historic former church in Menai Bridge have been submitted and are being assessed.

The striking English Presbyterian Church on Telford Road, a Grade II listed building in a Gothic style with a spire, was put on the market recently priced at £150,000.

Described as being “of immense character” and originally known as the “Menai Bridge Methodist Chapel”, it was built in 1888.

Its construction was funded through the generosity of philanthropist Richard Davies, a former MP for Anglesey 1868-86.

According to the Government history website Coflein, his brother Robert Davies of Bodlondeb built the chapel and it was designed by architect RG Thomas of Menai Bridge.

It boasts “stunning architectural integrity throughout, a school house, vestry and good sized garden and is located in a convenient town centre location”.

Prospective purchasers were required to submit their proposals along with their offers by September 30.

According to estate agents Dafydd Hardy, who are handling the sale, preferential consideration is set to be be given to developments considered by the owners to “benefit the community” or which would help “conserve the fabric of the building”.

Director of the firm, Dafydd Hardy, said:

“Recently we were asked to collect proposals for the former English Presbyterian Church in Menai Bridge.

“The owners wanted prospective purchasers to submit proposals along with their offers, as whilst all offers would be given due consideration, preference would be given to developments which were considered by the owners to benefit the community of Menai Bridge or the ongoing conservation of the fabric of the building.

“A decision on the successful proposal, if any, has yet to be reached.”
