Barry Murder Update: Police appeal for information on whereabouts of 21-year-old Leon Symons

SOUTH Wales Police is appealing for information on the whereabouts of a man wanted in connection with the murder of 17-year-old Harry Baker.

Harry’s body was found at Barry Intermodal Terminal, Wimborne Road, at around 5.50am on Wednesday morning.

Four men have been charged with murder and are all remanded in custody.

A fifth man also arrested on suspicion of murder remains in police custody.

Detectives investigating Harry’s death have today released details of a sixth man they wish to trace.

They would like to speak with Leon Symons in connection with the incident and are appealing to him directly, or anyone who knows him, to make contact.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Mark O’Shea, said: “21-year-old Leon Symons is from Ely in Cardiff but is known to have contacts in Barry, Rumney and Rhoose.

“We have been making enquiries at properties and areas he is known to frequent and are now appealing to the public for help.

“We would ask him – or anyone who knows him – to please contact South Wales Police or their nearest police station.

“We would very much like to thank the community for the support and information that has already been provided and would urge anyone with information to please get in touch.”

The public are advised not to approach Leon Symons directly but to call police immediately if they have any information regarding his whereabouts.

Harry’s family continue to be supported and updated by family liaison officers.

Eight people in total have been arrested in connection with the Harry Baker murder investigation.

Of the eight, four have been charged, two are released under investigation and two are in police custody.

The eight are as follows:

  • Peter McCarthy, 36, Ryan Palmer, 33, Nathan Delafonteine, 32, and Raymond Thompson, 47, have all been charged with murder.
  • Two men aged 21 and 22 were arrested on Saturday. The 21-year-old, who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been released under investigation.  The 22-year-old arrested on suspicion of murder remains in custody.
  • A 38-year-old woman, previously arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, is also released under investigation.
  • A 61-year-old man has been arrested in Barry this afternoon on suspicion of assisting an offender.
