ASSEMBLY Member for Gower, Rebecca Evans AM, will join the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) and volunteers during a Great British Beach Clean event at Rhossili on  Saturday 21st September

The Great British Beach Clean is the biggest annual beach clean-up and survey in the UK and is organised by the Marine Conservation Society. Last year’s Great British Beach Clean saw volunteers remove close to 500kg of litter from Welsh beaches, with some of it from Langland where Rebecca Evans participated.

Mrs Evans said: “I am encouraged by the progressive steps the Welsh Government is taking to tackle the serious issue of keeping our beaches and waters clean. The Welsh Government is already taking action to reduce plastic waste – such as a re-fill water scheme on the Wales Coast Path – and is committed to take a comprehensive, well-thought-out, long-term approach that has a positive long-term impact on reducing plastic pollution. At the heart of Welsh Government is the Wellbeing of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015, which is unique among the other countries of the UK in putting the environment at the heart of this law.”

Gower constituents looking to join their AM at the Great British Beach Clean can sign up to volunteer at www.mcsuk.org/greatbritishbeachclean and be part of the biggest and most influential fight against marine litter in the UK.

Mrs Evans concluded: “In Gower, we are so fortunate to have some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Join me at the clean up to show our commitment to caring for these wonderful beaches and waters in the part of the world that we are so fortunate to call home.”
