Booking for children’s Swim Safe sessions in Tywyn is now open

SWIM Safe is being hosted at 38 locations this year, on the coast and in-land, with this year being the first time the sessions have been held at Tywyn beach.

The public Swim Safe sessions run from Saturday 10 August to Monday 12 August this summer. Swim Safe instructors will deliver water safety lessons to children aged 7-14 so that if they find themselves, or anyone else in danger, they know how to react. Children at the sessions will be watched over by RNLI lifeguards, qualified instructors and volunteers.

All the kit needed to take part, including wetsuits, swim hats and flotation equipment, is provided for each child during the sessions. Children only need to bring their swimsuit and a towel. Each session gives children

Up to 30 minutes of practical, in-water tuition led by qualified instructors.

Alice Beetlestone, Swim Safe Coordinator said, “Swimming in open water is very different to swimming in a pool, where conditions can be controlled, therefore it’s so important to teach children about water safety.

“Swim Safe instructors, assisted by RNLI lifeguards, teach children how to respect the water whilst enjoying it too.”

Public Swim Safe sessions at Tywyn beach are now available to book online. Members of the public can book on to any of the free Swim Safe sessions for free visiting swimsafe.org.uk/locations.

The Tywyn Swim Safe sessions are being delivered by RNLI Community Support Officers and will take place near the Victorian Shelter, Marine Parade, Tywyn, Gwynedd, LL36 0DE.

The Swim Safe programme aims to support the UK Drowning Prevention Strategy’s aim of reducing accidental drowning by 50 per cent by 2026, to which Swim Wales and the RNLI are committed as members of the National Water Safety Forum.
