Brexit Party punish Lab and Cons in EU Parliamentary Elections as Farage ‘shakes’ the foundations of British politics

IT has been an extraordinary evening as the Brexit Party and Nigel Farage have shaken the foundations of British politics to its core. 

The Euro election results show huge gains for the Brexit Party and voters appear to have punished Labour and the Conservatives with the Greens and Liberal Democrats also making gains.

Mr Farage’s movement has been victorious in the East and North East of England and Cardiff. They have acquired 28 of the first 64 UK seats to be awarded.

Taking to Twitter Mr Farage said: “Never before in British politics has a party just 6 weeks old won a national election.

“If Britain does not leave the EU on October 31st, these results will be repeated at a general election.

“History has been made. This is just the beginning.”

Leader of the Greens, Sian Berry said that this was not a victory for Nigel Farage pointing out that the combined votes for parties, which stood for a ‘Remain’ stance came to 35% nudging ahead of the Brexit party.

Warning of collapse of democracy: Leader of Plaid Cymru, Adam Price AM/AC

Plaid Cymru leader Adam Price called for a second referendum and warned that unless the issue was resolved and the people had the opportunity to decide we could see a collapse of democracy.

The results are in for the European Parliamentary Elections 2019 for Wales.
  • Brexit Party – 271,404 – 32.5%
  • Plaid Cymru – 163,928 – 19.6%
  • Labour – 127,833 – 15.3%
  • Lib Dems – 113,885 – 13.6%
  • Conservatives – 54,587 – 6.5%
  • Green – 52,660 – 6.3%
  • UKIP – 27,566 – 3.3%
  • Change UK – 24,332 – 2.9%

The Carmarthenshire count took place at the Selwyn Samuel Centre, Llanelli, on Sunday May 26, and the turnout was 41.8%.

The number of ballot papers rejected was 370.

It means that Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party has got two Welsh MEPs elected  in Wales and won in 19 of the 22 council areas.
