A large crowd  gathered at the Memorial Gardens in Burry Port today, Sunday (Nov 14) to remember the fallen.

Representatives of the armed forces, veterans and civic dignitaries along with community organisations made the most of the crisp autumn morning to pay their respects. Mobility issues for veterans has meant that there are fewer in numbers attending and being able to man poppy stalls this year.

The service was led by Revd Nicholas Jones of St Mary’s Church.

The parade was accompanied with music provided by the Burry Port Town Band.

Town Mayor Mike Theodoulou was among many to place a wreath at the war memorial.

The last post sounded and Burry Port fell silent. As with many towns across Carmarthenshire the numbers of veterans are dwindling however there was a large community presence as well as representatives of Burry Port Town Council along with representatives from the RAF, the Army, the Royal Navy, the emergency services and local organisations who observed the minute’s silence.
