Caerphilly community groups benefit from over £10k in grants

Community groups in the Caerphilly county borough benefitted from £10,633 in grants between July and September this year.

Caerphilly County Borough Council administered these grants though its Voluntary Sector Grants budget and the Welsh Church Acts Fund scheme. The council’s Grants to the Voluntary Sector Panel were updated on this spend during a recent remote meeting.

Grants allocated through the council’s General Criteria Awards included support for a range of community groups including Penuel Baptist Church, Blackwood Musical Society and Tredomen Allotment Association.

The Welsh Church Acts Fund provided £5,000 of funding to enable the Friends of the Cefn Fforest and Pengam Eco Park to purchase new welfare units and storage cabins. Pontygwindy Allotment Association also received a grant through the fund of £4,743 to support them in the buying new equipment, sheds and polytunnels.

Cllr Eluned Stenner, the council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for Regeneration, said “We recognise the invaluable role voluntary groups play in our local communities; even more so during the pandemic. It’s really positive to see such an array of projects coming forward that we’ve been able to offer financial support to and we hope this additional funding will allow them to continue to flourish.”
