A CALL for a focus on reducing child poverty and addressing affordable housing needs will be put to senior councillors next week.

Pembrokeshire County Council’s cabinet will discuss two Notices of Motion put by St Davids councillor David Lloyd on Monday, October 4.

Cllr Lloyd’s motion on child poverty calls for the establishing of a multi-disciplinary working party to address the issue, with members included from health services and the third sector.

A report to cabinet indicates that the recently created Policy Forum made up of political group leaders, chairmen and vice chairmen of scrutiny committees and others would be the most suitable place to discuss child poverty and how to mitigate it.

A recommendation to convene the forum as soon as possible, with Cllr Lloyd to participate, to “the most appropriate way forward in relation to the Council demonstrating leadership on the issue of child poverty,” will be decided by cabinet.

A second motion relates to affordable housing and the demands of the Siarter Cartrefi Cymru/Welsh Housing Justice Charter.

It outlines a number of steps local authorities can take for addressing the housing crisis which is seeing many people forced from their local areas by costs and lack of provision.

This motion is also recommended for approval.
