Cannabis plants seized in Mynydd-y-Garreg after property searched

A ‘sophisticated’ cannabis production set-up was uncovered by Burry Port and Kidwelly police thanks to intelligence gained during community engagement events.

A warrant was carried out in the Mynyddygarreg area after information was gathered that the class B drug was being produced at the address.

With support from Llwynhendy Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) and the Dyfed-Powys Police dog unit, Burry Port and Kidwelly NPT searched the property on April 29.

Several large cannabis plants were found growing in a spare bedroom, as well as a number of small bags of herbal cannabis.

The street value of the drugs seized is estimated to be around £1,200 to £1,500.

Sergeant Gemma Davies said: “Intelligence leading to the warrant was gleaned by Burry Port and Kidwelly Neighbourhood Policing Team PCSOs during their regular Meet the Street work.

“PCSOs target a different street in their area each week, speaking with residents to address any concerns which are fed into their team’s plans and help to form priorities.

“Information about potential illegal activity at this particular property was developed quickly by the officers to enable swift and decisive action.

“Thanks to their work, they were able to reassure the community that their concerns were being addressed – and will continue to be.”

The occupant was interviewed that day and was released under investigation while further enquiries are carried out.
