Cardiff hubs and libraries now offer opportunity to browse the bookshelves

HUBS and libraries across the city are now offering library members the opportunity to browse the bookshelves for the first time in more than a year, as part of the continued recovery of community services in the city.

From Monday, April 19, customers can book a slot to visit their preferred hub or library and have 25 minutes to view and choose the books they would like to borrow.

Slots can be booked by contacting the Library Line on 029 2087 1071, option 2. Members can also continue to use the Library Line to choose and arrange a collection of items as part of the Click and Collect book service, via https://wales.ent.sirsidynix.net.uk/client/en_GB/card_en

Customers with a pre-arranged slot to browse must visit their chosen hub or library alone unless accompanied by a child or carer. Children over 11 are able to pre-book an appointment to choose their books on their own.

All visitors will need to wear a face-covering unless exempt inside the facilities, use the hand sanitiser provided before entering the building, and observe social distancing measures and any one-way systems in place once inside.

Enhanced cleaning measures will be in place at the building to help keep staff and customers safe.

A council spokesperson said:

“Cardiff Hubs and Libraries has maintained service for library members throughout the past year – initially by investing more in our digital offer and encouraging customers to try out our wide range of e-resources which has been really successful and popular and then, with the launch of our Click and Collect book service.

“We know though that for some customers there is no substitute for browsing the shelves at their local library or hub and choosing the titles they want to borrow that way. This is another step forward in our recovery plan and we look forward to seeing customers in our buildings for their pre-booked slots from next week.”
