Carmarthenshire council renew pay and display machines

MORE new pay and display machines are being installed across Carmarthenshire County Council car parks.

The second phase of an investment to improve facilities at town centre car parks is underway.

The machines are fully bilingual and take card payments as well as cash, making it easier for visitors to pay for their parking ticket.

Work is currently underway to install the new machines at car parks in Llanelli, Ammanford, Carmarthen, Newcastle Emlyn, Llandovery, St Clears and Llandovery.

Visitors are reminded to take advantage of the free parking windows at these car parks, as part of an ongoing pilot initiative being run by the council.

Drivers will still need to obtain a ticket and display it as normal, however the ticket will be issued with no charge for short stay bays at the following locations and times during the pilot:

Monday-Wednesday, 10am to 2pm, at town centre car parks in St Clears, Newcastle Emlyn, Llandovery, Llandeilo and Ammanford
Mondays and Tuesdays, 10am-4pm, in Llanelli town centre
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3.30pm-6pm, in Carmarthen town centre
These free parking periods are in addition to the five free parking days the council offers town centres every year, making over 15,000 free spaces available.

Cllr Hazel Evans, Executive Board Member for Environment, said: “We’re pleased to continue our investment in facilities at our town centre car parks. These new machines make it easier for people to pay and display as they now have the option to pay by card.

“Income from car parking fees not only helps us provide new and improved facilities across our car parks but also supports wider travel and transport schemes that serve our town centres.”

Terms and conditions of the free parking period pilot:

Free parking will only apply between the hours specified for each town
Free parking will only apply to those using the short stay parking bays. Where car parks have a mix of long and short stay car parking, those parking all day will need to use the long stay bays and pay the full charge
Visitors will still need to obtain and display a ticket, but the ticket will be issued at no charge during the specified periods
Parking during all periods outside the specified days and times will need to be paid for
