Cashmore sent to Young Offenders Institution for assaulting emergency services workers

A 19-year-old man has been sent to a young offenders institution for a string of offences including assaulting emergency services workers.

Appearing before Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on 20/06/2019 Robert George Cashmore of no fixed abode faced 11 charges including assault by beating, failing to comply with a community order and criminal damage to property. Some of the proceedings were subject to press restrictions.

The court heard that on 7th June 2019 at Llanelli Cashmore assaulted Police Sergeant Jones 555, an emergency worker, namely a Police Officer, acting in the exercise of his functions as such a worker, by beating him Contrary to section 39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 and section 1 of the Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences) Act 2018.

Further that on 7th June 2019 at Llanelli Cashmore assaulted Police Constable McIntosh 712, an emergency worker, namely a Police Officer, acting in the exercise of her Contrary to section 39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 and section 1 of the Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences) Act 2018.

The court heard that on 7th June 2019 at Llanelli Cashmore also assaulted Police Constable Morgan 169, an emergency worker, namely a Police Officer, acting in the exercise of her functions as such a worker, by beating her Contrary to section 39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 and section 1 of Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences) Act 2018. orders.

Finally the court heard that on 7th June 2019 at Llanelli Cashmore used towards Ps Jones 555, Pc McIntosh and Pc Morgan 169 threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause those persons to believe that immediate unlawful violence would be used against them or it was likely that such violence would be provoked Contrary to section 4(1) and (4) of the Public Order Act 1986.

Cashmore had pleaded not guilty to the charges previously but changed his plea to guilty.

He was sentenced to 24 weeks in a young offenders institution and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £115.
