Castell Howell boss hosts field visit and meeting for Royal Welsh Agricultural Society

THE Council of Awards of the Royal Agricultural Societies (CARAS) in Wales recently held a very successful Council meeting and Field Visit at Castell Howell Foods in Crosshands.

CARAS members and staff of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society were treated to varied and interesting presentations by Brian Jones and his son Martin and daughter Kathryn, who are directors of the business. Castell Howell has developed from a small farm-based local supplier in Carmarthen, into one of Wales’ largest food producers and wholesalers.

The generosity of Brian Jones and CARAS members raised money for two charities. £1,000 was donated to RABI and a second £1,000 to Prostate Cymru. In addition, a further £570 was collected on the day which will be donated to McMillan as the conference coincided with the McMillan Coffee mornings.

The Chair of CARAS (Wales), Mr Meurig James said “The day was a huge success and we are grateful to Brian Jones and the whole Castell Howell Team for their generosity and time. We are also proud to be able to donate over £2,500 to three excellent causes.”

Mr Brian Jones said: “We are very proud to have hosted the CARAS field day and if it has been of value or advantage to any individual that made the effort to attend the event, then it will have all been worthwhile.”

CARAS recognises people who have made an outstanding contribution to Agriculture and there are over 350 members in Wales. We are planning our annual conference which will take place in January and next year’s Field visit which will be held in Caernarfonshire by kind permission of Aled Jones, Hendy, who is Vice President of NFU Cymru.
