CEREDIGION is “suffering least” from covid-19 compared to the rest of Wales the council leader said in her most recent update.

Cllr Ellen ap Gwynn has updated members of Ceredigion at every cabinet meeting since the start of the pandemic and on Tuesday (March 16) said there had been just three new cases recently.

“Which leaves us on 4.1 per 100,000, that’s excellent, and long may it continue,” said Cllr ap Gwynn.
“The positivity rate is down too and we as a county are suffering least in Wales at the moment I’m very pleased to report. It’s early days because some counties are suffering quite harshly, especially in Merthyr and Anglesey,” she added.

She added that it had been a year since the county council had started holding its meetings virtually, beginning with her quarantine after returning from holiday and appearing “on screen” in the chamber at Penmorfa, Aberaeron.

Cabinet heard that the vaccination programme was progressing well with Hywel Dda Health Board on track to meet the April 12 target to vaccinate the first nine priority groups.

Cllr ap Gwynn added that even more of the county’s children were returning to school with those not due back until after Easter to be invited in for “well-being visits” and visits to care homes due to restart on April 1 in “pods outside.”

“There is light at the end of the tunnel now, these are heartening figures in Ceredigion and Wales’ figures are coming down significantly as well,  the vaccination are continuing, so hopefully we will see things nearing some sort of new normal before long,” said Cllr ap Gwynn.
