Changes to Carmarthen’s Park and Ride service

THE timetable for Carmarthen’s Park and Ride service has changed.

The service, which connects passengers with Nant-y-ci and Glangwili Hospital, now runs Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 6.30pm.

The changes are a temporary arrangement due to the re-tender of the existing contract with Morris Travel.

It means the service will start half an hour later in the morning, and finish half an hour earlier in the evening, with no Saturday service.

The Park and Ride service is jointly funded by Carmarthenshire County Council and Hywel Dda University Health Board.

It starts at Nant-y-ci car park and stops at Carmarthen Bus Station – the main stopping point in the town centre – before moving on to Spilman Street, St Peters, and Glangwili Hospital, before returning to Nant-y-ci.

Passengers can travel between any of the stopping points, and can buy or use return tickets, 12 trip tickets, West Wales Rover Tickets and All Wales Concessionary Travel Passes as with other bus services in the town.

Parking at Nant-y-ci Car Park is free. One day return tickets for users of the car park are £1, with free travel for children under 16 if accompanied by a fare-paying adult.

All Wales Concessionary Travel Pass holders travel free.

In the last 12 months the service has provided close to 50,000 passenger journeys, averaging 81 users per day.

The most popular day for journeys is a Wednesday, Carmarthen’s market day.

Saturday, which will be temporarily removed from the service timetable, is the most quiet, accounting for just 12 per cent of journeys.

Cllr Hazel Evans, Executive Board Member for Environment, said: “These changes are temporary whilst the contract with the provider is re-tendered, but it’s possible the changes may become permanent.

“Saturday is the quietest of days for the service, so we hope the withdrawal of services on that day will not inconvenience too many users.”
