A fun night at The White Lion in Felinfoel, Llanelli, has raised over £400 to help develop a therapeutic garden at Bryngolau older adult mental health ward based at Prince Philip Hospital.
The night was organised by Claire Rumble, Fundraising Officer for Hywel Dda Health Charities, who said: “The night was great fun with money raised from ticket sales, a raffle and an auction which was conducted by Reverend Eldon Philips who was very persuasive in getting the best bids. There was also virtual horseracing and The White Lion kindly donated all proceeds from this to the charity. Thank you to everyone who supported the event.”
Richard Williams, Ward Manager at Bryngolau, said: “We’re currently fundraising to re-develop the garden at Bryngolau to help the rehabilitation of our patients.
Bryngolau ward was built around 15 years ago and in that time the garden has become tired and no longer provides the therapeutic space that our patients need. Patients admitted to Bryngolau often spend many months on the ward and when they are used to being physically active; being restricted and confined within the ward can become a source of distress.”
Fresh air and observing nature is free medicine for the soul and we want our patients to have as much access to the outdoors as possible. We are aiming to provide areas for sitting, relaxing and reflecting, walking and exercising or gardening and keeping active. Any help to enable us to achieve this will be gratefully received.”
