WORKERS from city-based companies could be enjoying the Powys countryside as part of time away on team building exercises, if plans are approved.
Straightforward Properties Ltd has lodged planning applications with Powys County Council to convert and extend Rhyd y Carw Mill and Barns in Trefeglwys, near Llanidloes, to turn it into a corporate retreat.
Agent Frederick Carter explained the scheme.
Mr Carter said: “The proposal is to use the site for a corporate events development attracting visitors from firms in the city to experience a range of activities to improve team building, productivity and wellbeing.
“It is anticipated that the site will provide employment and support local businesses and tourism to the surrounding area.
“The existing buildings on site consist of one vacant stone and timber barn and a brick and timber barn currently used for storage and kennels.
“The application relates to the proposed construction of an activity wellbeing centre or workshops.”
According to Mr Carter these could be for a variety of activities such as
yoga, and cookery.
The plan for the second barn is to use it as accommodation for the site where visitors would stay while on a course there.
Mr Carter said: “The extension to the barn is greater than 50 per cent however this is to achieve the accommodation needed for the business to function.
“The new events development has been designed to mimic a traditional barn in its form and scale with modern low level glazed entrance to reflect its purpose.”
Due to archaeological concerns about a nearby Roman road, the bedroom block has been moved to the side of the barn.
Mr Carter explained that local labour and materials would be used for the building work.
Mr Carter added: “Once operational the development will provide employment for hosting, bookings and cleaning to manage the day to day running of
the business.
“The wider implications for the community could range from providing
additional accommodation for visitors, tourism and trade and links to activity centres to support a wider development aim.”
The plans will be decided by Powys planners at a future date.
