City wishes talented singer Justine Afante well for The Voice Kids final

HUGELY talented Swansea pupil who sang the anthem for the city’s 50th-anniversary celebrations last year has reached Saturday’s grand final of The Voice Kids.

Justine Afante, who attends Bishop Vaughan Catholic School, has made it through to the final four on the hit ITV show that is watched by millions.

Before her success on the talent show, she was already a familiar face to many in Swansea as she sang “This Is Our City” which was played on the Big Screen in Castle Square throughout the 50th celebrations and performed across the city at a number of high profile events and performances.

Justine, 13, is mentored on the show by chart-topping singer Pixie Lott and sang One Moment In Time to impress the judges and book her place in the final.

Emma Pole, the headteacher at Bishop Vaughan, said the whole school had been excitedly following her progress during the series as they were aware of her talent as she sings at school events such as the Annual Presentation Evening and in school talent shows.

Mrs Pole said:

“I cannot emphasise enough what a delightful young lady Justine is and we are all wishing her all the very best for Saturday.

“But whatever the outcome is, everyone at Bishop Vaughan Catholic School is already incredibly proud of her achievements.

“Anyone who has been lucky enough to hear Justine sing will know she is quite simply remarkable. Good luck Justine from all at Bishop Vaughan.”

Ahead of the final Pixie Lott has been to Swansea to film with Justine and the footage will feature in Saturday’s show.

The Lord Mayor of Swansea, Cllr Mark Child, said:

“It is always nice to see one of our young people excelling and Justine is a wonderful ambassador for Swansea.

“I would like to wish her the very best on behalf of all at Swansea Council and indeed the city but whatever the outcome Justine has already made us all very proud.”
