Communities for Work+ participant secures job as a HGV driver

A Ceredigion resident was offered a secure work opportunity after receiving help from the Communities for Work+ project.

Martin Morse was able to get his HGV licence after a job search session and training with the Communities for Work+ team.

Delor, a Mentor in the team enrolled Martin on to the project, conducted a job search session and secured him a job offer. Catrin, Employers Liaison Officer contacted Snowdon Transport to ensure that Martin would be offered a position once he had completed his training.

Martin said: “The support I have received from Delor and Catrin from Communities for work plus has been phenomenal. The communication from them both has been outstanding. If I needed anything or help in regards to work search and training, I knew I could contact them both and they were there to support me no matter what.

He continued: “I would really recommend this project to anyone who is struggling financially and to anyone looking for support to find work. It was the best decision I’ve ever made and I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for all the support from Delor and Catrin. My financial situation has improved a lot and I feel much better about life since obtaining my Class 1 licence. The bonus of this is I’m getting to travel around the UK and see places I’ve never seen before and meet different people which is also helping my social skills. I can’t thank the team enough!”

Matt Ahmed, Operations Manager at Snowdon Transport Ltd said: “This is a fantastic initiative. Given the current crisis that the transport industry is facing with the shortage of drivers, there should be more programme like these in place which are in place to benefit individuals who are in financial poverty.

Councillor Catrin Miles, Ceredigion County Council Cabinet Member for Schools, Lifelong Learning and Skills, Support and Intervention, said: “It’s fantastic to see how Martin has benefitted from the project, which in time has enabled him to secure a position with Snowdon Transport Ltd. Congratulations Martin!”
