Conservatives priorities totally wrong claim Welsh Lib Dems

The Welsh Liberal Democrats have branded the Welsh Conservatives as ‘hopelessly out of touch’ in response to Paul Davies’ speech to Welsh Conservative conference.

Paul Davies’ conference speech focused on ending ‘the Assembly gravy train’ by refusing to expand the Assembly, freezing the Assembly Commission’s budget, halving the number of Cabinet members, imposing a freeze on civil service recruitment and not raising any taxes.

Welsh Liberal Democrat Leader Jane Dodds said:

“While people across Wales are trying to rebuild their lives following the devastating floods, Mr Davies chose to use his speech to promote a plan to handicap our nation’s parliament. This shows just how wrong they’ve got their priorities and how hopelessly out of touch they are.

“The Conservatives’ plans for a hard Brexit at the end of the year threatens Wales’ economy, their inaction on the climate crisis puts the very future of our planet at risk, and their continued rollout of the flawed Universal Credit system has pushed thousands across Wales into poverty.

“I’m disappointed that instead of addressing any of these issues, Mr Davies’ speech was full of hollow rhetoric and tried to place the blame for all of Wales’ problems onto the Senedd itself.

“Unlike the Conservatives, the Welsh Liberal Democrats are focused on delivering on the priorities that matter to the people of Wales. We’re transforming Welsh education to give every child the best start in life and we’re committed to creating more well-paying jobs, taking real action to tackle the climate emergency and to giving people the quality health service they deserve.”
