THE COMPANY set to build a ‘mobile village’ for Haverfordwest secondary school pupils has pulled out, but discussions with a reserve contractor are underway, cabinet was told.
Cabinet member for planning and infrastructure Cllr Phil Baker updated members on Monday, May 13, saying the the contractors had withdrawn their tender for the £3million project.
Discussions with the reserve contractor are under way, he added.
He reassured the people of Haverfordwest that the authority was “committed to deliver the scheme and work was continuing while the mobile village tender was addressed.
This includes consideration of a planning application due next week, as well as car parking layout planning, internal application at the Portfield site and other work for service upgrades.
Cllr Baker asked for cabinet approval to go to tender for the design development and construction of the new Haverfordwest High School.
The contract value for the school build is around £40million with a total budget for the entire scheme at £48.7million.
“It’s most appropriate to get a contractor on board to start working with the design team for the new school,” he added.
Cabinet approved the start of the two stage tender process.
