Councillor steps in to run Royal British Legion poppy stall

A county Councillor has stepped in to man the Royal British Legion poppy stall after veterans were unable to run it themselves.

Many of the last generation of veterans from the Second World War are now at a ripe old age and were struggling to man the stall which demands long hours.

Dafen County Councillor Rob Evans contacted the Royal British Legion to ask when the poppy stall would be in Llanelli ( none last year due to Covid) Rob is a veteran of the RAF.

The Legion didn’t have anyone available to run the stall ( due to the age of Veterans)

He collared fellow Councillors to help him run the stall at the  St. Elli Centre ( at the entrance to the market)

Councillor Evans will be there until Saturday the 13th.

Rob said: “Local shopkeeper Arqram is helping us out, by storing the merchandise in his store overnight.

I felt it was the least I could do given the service these men and women have given to our country.

I am hoping Llanelli will come out in force to purchase a poppy and contribute to a worthy cause.”
