CYCA CEO takes part in BBC Listening Project

LLANELLI community champion and CYCA CEO, Tracy Pike, MBE, has taken part in a national Listening project for the BBC.

The Listening Project is a partnership between BBC Radio 4, BBC local and national radio stations, and the British Library. It was established to capturing the nation in conversation but during the COVID-19 crisis the project has changed its format to record voices, stories and new experience during lockdown.

As a local expert in wellbeing for children, young people and their families, Tracy Pike has developed a charity to support those in most need throughout Carmarthenshire. Since the lockdown the charity and her team of experienced trainers, counsellors, welfare officers have had to complete change the way they work; and Tracy has championed a move from face-to-face services to a world of virtual support.

Tracy Pike said:

“As soon as we became aware of social distancing I knew we had to move our services online. Now more than ever do we need to support young people and their families, this lockdown has put pressure on people in ways we couldn’t have imagined; financially, physically and emotionally. We are having to focus on supporting the mental health of those that are really suffering, though online counselling and training.”

Quick action and the support of the team has meant that CYCA has continued to support its community, but the charity, and thousands of others around the country, have had to learn a new suite of online and technical skills.

The Listening Project is reflecting this new world through its recording. The first Live reg=coring will go out on BBC Radio 4 this Sunday between 1.30 and 2pm.
