Development Control Committee approves two roundhouses

TWO roundhouses will be built on a large, remote former farm on the border of Powys despite local concern it could later be used as accommodation.

The Wales Wild Land  Foundation owns 350 acres at Bwlch Corog near Cefn Coch, Glaspwll which has no buildings or shelters on it following the demolition if the former farm years ago.

Members of Ceredigion County Council’s development control committee on August 14 approved two shelters – in a roundhouse style with thatched  roofs – for storage of animal feed, tools and machinery; to provide workshop space, plus two associated compost toilet facilities.

Local resident Teresa Jones told the committee that the five letters of objection represented a “high percentage of the local population” in a “sparsely populated area.”

Concerns about the access track were also raised but the main objection “centre around the suspicion that these enclosures may be altered to provide holiday accommodation or overnight accommodation which is not the case,” a report by officers states.

Previous plans to offer overnight stays had been “abandoned” said planning officer Catrin Newbold.

There was some discussion about improving the track but it was not considered justified to impose that work be done.

Once a month volunteer days are held at the site and around six primary school visits held throughout the year.

The Foundation intends to improve local biodiversity by managing the land to increase areas of heather moorland and increasing native tree cover with the planting of around 8,000 trees which  the storage areas will facilitate.
