Driver arrested as children injured following collision with car

SOUTH Wales Police is continuing its appeal for information following a collision between a car and a group of pedestrians in Merthyr Tydfil yesterday (Jul 16).

Police were called to Heol Scwfra, Gellideg, at approximately 7pm, following reports that children were hurt after being in a collision by an Audi A4 which is understood to have left the road.

Two boys, aged 10 and 12, were injured as a result of the collision – the 12 year-old boy sustained serious injuries and is being treated at the University Hospital of Wales.

The 32 year-old driver of the Audi A4 was arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody.

Officers would like to speak with anybody who may have noticed the manner of driving moments before the collision, or to anybody who may have been at the scene but left before speaking to officers.

People in the vicinity with a dash-cam or CCTV footage may also be able to assist. Anybody with information should contact South Wales Police via 101 quoting reference *259687 or they can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The road was closed for approximately four hours to allow for investigation work to be carried out – officers would like to thank the community for their cooperation during this time.
