Drug dealer who caught ‘himself’ in the act jailed

A drug dealer from south Wales was banged to rights by footage from his very own dashboard camera.

Scott Curtis, 45, from from Graiglwyd, Cwmdare, Aberdare, was potentially facing charges for possession, but two hours of dashcam footage from his yellow Ford Focus caught him in the act, freely carrying out drug deals on his phone and even stopping users in the street.

Scott Curtis was stopped by police while driving along the A4059 towards Mountain Ash at approximately 3pm on 6th September, 2018.

As officers approached the car he tried to throw a small bag of cocaine and heroin out of the window, but it was recovered by officers and he was arrested and taken into custody.

Officers then secured a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act to search his Aberdare home where they discovered cannabis plants.

But it was footage retrieved from Scott Curtis’ dashboard camera which ultimately sealed his fate. In one scene, Curtis is polishing his car and he answers his phone. He can then be heard saying: “I don’t do Valium, gear I do,” and agrees the price “three for 25”. He goes on to say he will “be there in 10 minutes”. The drug deal plays out in full view of Detective Constable Steve Woolley who adds possessing class a drugs with intent to supply to the indictment.

Scott appeared at Merthyr Crown Court on Friday, 19 July, 2019, where he pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine and possessing heroin with intent to supply and producing cannabis. He was jailed for two years and six months.

Detective Constable Steve Woolley said: “Scott tried his best to get away with his crimes. He threw drugs from his vehicle and then claimed that it was all for own personal use. But when we played back his own dashcam footage, I don’t think he could quite believe it himself. Initially he replied no comment each time he was given the chance to explain what was going on, but so good was the case against him, he pleaded guilty to all charges and will spend a considerable time behind bars.”
