Dumped dog found dead in lake near Tredegar

A MALE pit-bull type dog has been found dead in a lake in Trefil near Tredgegar with a “gruesome” shot wound to his head.

The sad discovery was made on Sunday (Nov 29) by a member of the public who called the RSPCA. The dog was found with his head submerged in the water of the lake which is near the Tafarn Ty Uchaf in Trefil – a few miles from Tredegar.

RSPCA inspector Simon Evans said: “This poor pit-bull type dog has been shot in the head – which is very concerning and gruesome to see.

“He hadn’t been in the water long – so he may have been placed there on or around Sunday (29 November). Apart from the shot wound he was in a good condition otherwise. The dog wasn’t microchipped so we can’t trace his owner.”

RSPCA Cymru would like to thank the caller for their report after finding this dog and is now appealing for information to try and find out what happened.

Simon added: “If anyone has any information about this dog please contact the RSPCA’s cruelty line, in complete confidence, on 0300 1234 999.

“An x-ray shows clearly that this dog has indeed been shot in the head, which is extremely sad. We’d urge anyone with any information to get in touch.”
