Empty shopfront set to transform into new Takeaway and Shisha Bar

A NEW takeaway is set to open at the site of a former beauty salon in Maindee.

Plans for the empty shop at 141 Chepstow Road to be changed into a restaurant and takeaway have been approved by Newport City Council’s planning department.

The new restaurant could include a shisha bar in the garden, which is at the back of the property.

Currently the former salon has treatment rooms, these will be changed into seating for customers and a preparation area.

The opening hours have been restricted to between 10am and 11pm, Monday to Sunday. This is due to concerns from a neighbour about the increase in noise caused by the change of use.

No external alterations will be made to the building, except for new signs.

The planning statement, prepared by AJ Planning on behalf of the applicant, said the takeaway will “complement the existing use in the locale” band support the “vitality and viability” of the area.
