CARMARTHENSHIRE County Councils’ Executive Board is calling for clarity from Welsh Government in relation to the schools re-opening.
Members have expressed their concern over the Education
Minister’s announcement that schools should re-open for four weeks, without having agreement in place from the unions.
They are also calling on the Welsh Government to provide clear guidance as soon as possible for the start of the new term in September.

The Executive Board of Carmarthenshire County Council has agreed that the summer term for schools in Carmarthenshire should remain at three weeks, and not extended to four weeks as announced by the Minister for Education.
The Board expressed concern that an announcement was made by Welsh Government that schools should open for four weeks, extending the summer term by one week without proper consensus and agreement from relevant unions.
The Board asks the Welsh Government to provide clear, coherent guidance on arrangements for the start of the new term in September, ensuring that proper consideration and full agreement is in place ahead of any announcement. The Board further calls for the utmost clarity now in any guidance, alongside an assurance that this will be issued as soon as possible to allow local authorities, teachers, staff, parents and children time to prepare accordingly.
