Farm environmental improvement scheme set for approval by council planners

A ‘farm environmental improvement scheme’ looks likely to be approved by Pembrokeshire County Council planners next week.

At their first meeting after the summer break the planning committee will consider an application for Llwyndyrys Farm at Square and Compass in north Pembrokeshire.

Buildings at the farm are described as “various states of repair” and used for animal housing, implement storage and milking of the current herd of 210 cows, with around 80 calves.

The plan is to improve the autumn calving dairy farm with a covered feed/loafing area, a replacement silage store, a nutrient store, drainage works with attenuation pond, landscaping and planting.

Llwyndyrys Farm is  made up of approximately 72 Hectares of owned land, with a further 36 Hectares available as rented land on a cutting licence, the planning report states.

There is capacity for 220 cows, which are kept inside between October and March, with calves also reared indoors through winter, and turned out to graze in the summer.

Objections have been raised about the proximity of the nutrient store to properties and existing slurry store capacity.

The application is recommended for approval by planning officers as it would result in the “modernisation of an existing farm complex, with subsequent environmental improvements.”
