Farming workshop offered to aid diversification

HERE’S an event where farmers can receive more information about Farm Diversification in practice and how to add value through new business activities.

This event aims to inspire farmers with a thirst for knowledge, how to establish an extra growing enterprise alongside current farming systems, by showcasing successful Welsh enterprising ventures.

Gerald Miles from Caerhys Farm in Pembrokeshire, will be speaking at the event. A dairy farmer who has diversified into growing vegetables for his local community. Gerald grows rare heritage grains and makes cheese alongside his existing dairy herd.

You will also hear from Nancy Durham, founder of FARMERS’ Welsh Lavender Ltd in Builth Wells.

The company introduced the lavender crop to Wales on a field scale and are distillers of lavender essential oil. Now visitors flock to the farm around the year to see all the activity and FARMERS’ body care products are stocked in shops around the UK and internationally.

Both speakers will discuss the key aspects of what is involved in establishing a new enterprising growing activity and the benefits and challenges of doing so.

The event is being held on a focus site for Farming Connect, Y Plas, Machynlleth, Powys, SY20 8ER.
