Flexible workspace in Llanelli to be considered in open event hosted by Lee Waters MS

LLANELLI’s Member of the Senedd Lee Waters is hosting an open event from 11:30am on 17th September looking at the feasibility of setting up a flexible coworking space in the town centre.
The workshop-style event will be held at Glenalla Civic Hall and is open to anyone who would be interested in working in such a venue.
Invitations will be sent out to local businesses as well as representatives from Carmarthenshire and Llanelli Town Council, Hywel Dda Health Board, Coleg Sir Gar and Trinity St David University.
The number of people working from home surged during the first lockdown, and the Welsh Government has published aims for at least 30% of the workforce to have the opportunity to work flexibly between home and the office.
Mr Waters says a coworking hub in the town centre will give workers, students and others more choice on where they ply their trade on a daily basis.
Lee Waters said:
“For towns like Llanelli, the opportunity to attract commuters who would normally go to the big city offices for work is massive. And for some of our cutting-edge local firms, an attractive, close to home, space to collaborate together could unlock real economic benefits.”
He added:
“This workshop is a chance to the get the ball rolling on what it would take to establish a coworking hub here in our town centre. What would its purpose be? Who would run it? How would it be paid for? Where should it be located? These are all live questions, and the event is our first chance to have an in-person discussion about them. If the idea of a coworking hub interests you or your business, please do come along and contribute to the discussion.”
To RSVP for the event, please email lee.waters@senedd.wales or call 01554 774902.

MS asks for public’s views as part of “Summer of ideas to make Llanelli better”

Llanelli’s Member of the Senedd Lee Waters is asking for the public’s views this summer on how to make Llanelli a better place to live, work and relax.

A series of ideas will be posted on the MS’ Facebook page this month, with an opportunity for the public to discuss and suggest their own. These will include a repair hub in the town centre for people to fix broken items, a more active role for Parc Howard and Festival Fields, and boating tours of the local coastline from Burry Port Harbour.

With all ideas, big or small, being welcomed, Lee Waters MS said:

“I want to hear your thoughts and ideas for how we can make Llanelli better this summer. During the recent election campaign, I spoke to many of you who felt we weren’t making the most out of the assets we have in our area. Too often the narrative has been about decline and what we lack, but there is much here to be proud of, not least our stunning scenery. We have real potential if we can knock heads together and make things happen.”

He added:

“I’d love to hear your thoughts this summer, and I’ll be taking forward the most popular ideas with Carmarthenshire Council and other organisations.”

To contribute, you can contact Lee by phone (01554 774902) or email (lee.waters@senedd.wales).

Dafen trade park gets a glamorous new addition

The old Avon Inflatables in Dafen, which has operated as “Dafen Trade Park” since 2015, has gained a glamorous new addition.
Glam Tanning and Beauty will be a one-stop-shop for all things hair and beauty, creating over 30 jobs.
Laura Harries, who previously ran a salon in the Machynys area, said she was delighted to be expanding:
“When the opportunity for the large unit in Dafen came up I took it with both hands. We are recruiting a minimum of 36 new staff members, from experienced hairdressers, nail technicians, beauty therapists and customer service staff. They’ll all have the opportunity to learn new skills and gain qualifications via local colleges. I had built up a loyal customer base in my previous salon, and I’m excited to be bringing them with me as well as attracting new customers here.”
Visiting Glam Tan on their opening day, Lee Waters MS said:
“It was great to pop into Glam Tan, to wish Laura Harries and her team good luck with their bold new venture in Dafen Trade park. She’s put huge effort, and all she has, into creating what she says is the UK’s largest hair, beauty and tanning salon all under one roof. She’s had the backing of the Welsh Government’s Development Bank for Wales and will be opening in phases over the coming weeks. Pob lwc Lauren!”
Also visiting Glam Tan, Nia Griffith MP said: ““Hats off to businesswoman Laura for her vision in setting up this stunning all-in beauty salon….and I wish her and her great team of staff every success.”
