Food bin liners for all households to help recycle food waste

FOOD bin liners are being delivered to homes across Carmarthenshire for the first time.

The food bin liners are being delivered to help residents recycle their food waste more easily.

Households will receive three rolls of food bin liners for their brown kitchen caddies along with their annual delivery of blue bags.

Deliveries will start in October up until the end of March.

Residents can find out when their blue bags and food bin liners are due to be delivered by visiting the delivery tracker on the council’s website. Simply type in your postcode and it will tell you your month of delivery. It will also state if the delivery has already taken place.

From October 7, the maximum number of black bags householders can put out for collection will be three a fortnight, so it is more important than ever to recycle any food waste.

If you need a replacement brown caddy or green bin it is quicker to pick one up from your nearest Hwb; they are also available at the council offices in Llandeilo, or you can order them online.

The council’s Executive Board Member for Environment Cllr Hazel Evans said: “Figures show that almost a quarter of the contents of black bags in Carmarthenshire is food waste.

“Hopefully by delivering food bin liners we will encourage more people to use the food bins. No amount is too small, even if it is just a few tea bags, please recycle them as food waste in landfill creates methane, a greenhouse gas 23 times more deadly than carbon dioxide.”

Cllr Evans added: “It may be some time before some residents receive their delivery, and we would ask them to please be patient. They are being delivered by our crews separately to the bin collections and with more than 87,000 homes in the county it will take some time.”

Three rolls of blue bags are delivered to households which is enough to put out six bags a fortnight, however, there is no limit on the number of blue bags that can be put out for recycling and large families that may need additional rolls during the year, can collect more from 12 collection points across the county.
