Four Seasons Country and Leisure Park granted alcohol licence

FEARS were raised that granting an alcohol licence to a holiday park being built near Trefeglwys, would create noise and anti-social behaviour there.
Earlier this month Powys County Council’s Licencing sub-committee looked at an application by Jonathan Williams and Lisa Hughes.
Ahead of its opening this autumn they had applied for a premises licence for the Four Seasons Country and Leisure Park,
Last year an application to convert Mid Wales Shooting Centre  at Ffinnant Farm near Trefeglwys into  holiday park was  approved by Powys planners
There 65 holiday lodges, 72 static caravans and 70 touring pitches will be built and placed on the site.
Objector Tony Kelly said: “We’re talking of a full occupancy of 400 people, with so many, how on earth is that going to be controlled?
“I don’t see any plan or structure for regulation.
“I don’t think that with drinking, eating, dancing and music all day every day which is what the licence is applied for, is conducive with peace quiet and indeed a Mid-Wales valley.
“Mid Wales is not about this, it’s not Rhyl or Tywyn, it’s about peace and tranquillity.”
He believed that granting the valley would “ruin” a “very pleasant valley.”
“I’m vehemently opposed to this and the scale of the development,” said Mr Kelly.”
Applicant Jonathan Williams told the panel of three councillors: “It’s a fine dining restaurant with a bar it’s not going to be a nightclub or anything of the sort.
“We’re trying to create a five-star holiday complex where people come for peace and tranquillity.”
He added that he had already employed a “top class chef” for the restaurant.
Mr Williams added:  “There’s no plans to have music playing seven days a week the only reason it’s on the application is for when we have outdoor events, say a barbecue or pizza evening.
“It will be run in the strictest way; we don’t want any rowdiness or hassle.”
After a 20-minute deliberation Sub-committee chairman, Cllr Mike Williams, told the applicants that the panel which included Cllrs Francesca Jump and Huw Williams had agreed to grant them the licence.
Committee solicitor, Colin Edwards told Mr Kelly he could appeal the decision by making an application to the Magistrates Court.
Mr Edwards added that if there were problems at the site a review of the licence could be asked for in the future.
The application is for the sale of alcohol from 10am to 1am all week at the clubhouse there.
The holiday park would be allowed live and recorded music as well as dancing from 12pm to 12am all week, indoor sporting events and show films would be allowed from 10 am to 10pm, and hot food and drink could be served until 12am (midnight).
