French visitors, sled dog racing, undefeated Burry Port and Yma o Hyd at number one

IT was a great weekend of sport in Carmarthenshire and a great day for Welsh music in general as the British Dog Sledding Championships stopped off at Pembrey Country Park and Dafydd Iwan ac Ar Log reached number one in the iTunes UK top 100 singles chart.

The song Yma o Hyd had shot into the charts as a new entry at number 7 on Saturday coinciding with the big game at Parc y Scarlets between the Scarlets and Toulon. Even though the Scarlets lost 15-27 one cannot rule out a large number of home and away fans having gone away with the song ringing in their ears and hitting the worldwide web in search of Dafydd’s mesmerising and powerful song.

By Sunday Dafydd had usurped the likes of Stormzy to take the number one spot. Ardderchog a Llongyfarchiadau Mawr Dafydd.

At Pembrey Country Park sleds were the order of the day, these were the wheeled type sleds being pulled by dogs. The canines did a wonderful job of hauling participants around a very tough course for the BSSF Sled Dog Racing Championships.

At Burry Port the men in black secured yet another victory over visiting Pontarddulais 14-0 to retain their very impressive unbeaten run. It is becoming quite a venue to visit for high quality rugby at all levels.

Storm Brendan is making its way across Wales and may put pay to any sporting fixtures over the next couple of days. You could always download Dafydd’s song and sit back and enjoy. Yma o Hyd
