Glamping plans approved but councillor says design is ‘appalling’

PLANS for holiday lodges outside Haverfordwest have been approved but their design criticised by the council’s planning committee.

At Tuesday’s (February 11) meeting an application four holiday units and an access road at Little Slade Acres, Cuckoo Lane was given the go ahead.

But Cllr Michael Williams said “the design is appalling.”

“In this day and age surely they could design something more aesthitically pleasing then these, they look awful,” he added.

Cllr Stephen Joseph described the units as “garden sheds with a door on the end.”

The site, off the Haven Road, is agricultural land and would feature four 20 square metre timber clad units.

Each holiday home will have a decking area outside and inside will have open plan kitchen/living and bedroom area with separate bathrooms.

“Little Slade Retreats is proposed to be a small holiday complex that offers both active and relaxation packages which would allow visitors to partake in fitness programmes and appreciation of the surroundings, whilst visiting the area,” a report to the meeting states.

The new access would be off the Haven Road, via Cuckoo Lane, with access to the town suitable for pedestrians.

Haverfordwest councillor Tim Evans supported the plan and told the committee that the family who owned the land wanted to diversify into glamping.

He added there were plans to improve the ecology of the site by reinstating 300 metres of hedgerow and planting 450 trees.

The application was approved with three votes against.
