Green light for new rights of way plan

A TEN-year right of way improvement plan has been given the thumbs up by Carmarthenshire County Council’s Executive Board.

The Executive Board recommended the council’s Rights of Way Improvement Plan 2019-29 be adopted at their meeting today (Monday, Oct 21).

All authorities must review their plans every 10 years.

Some 130 responses were received from people across the county on their views of the draft plan over a 12-week consultation period. Their feedback was incorporated into the final plan.

The final plan will now go before the full council for the final decision.

Carmarthenshire has nearly 2,442km of footpaths, which include bridleways and by-ways.

The Executive Board Member for Environment, Cllr Hazel Evans, said: “We need to deliver this plan, it’s important to all those who contributed.”

The Executive Board Member for Culture, Sport and Tourism, Cllr Peter Hughes-Griffiths, said: “Praise must be given to the small team that deals with so many miles of footpaths. I can’t believe how much they do.”
