Guidance for tradespeople working in people’s homes

THE council’s Trading Standards team has received a number of calls from tradespeople asking if they can continue working during the coronavirus outbreak.

It mainly relates to work carried out in people’s homes, for example carrying out repairs and maintenance.

This type of work can continue, provided that the tradesperson is well and has no symptoms, and Government guidance is followed in relation to social distancing and hygiene / cleanliness.

In particular:

It is important to maintain a two-metre distance from any household occupants to ensure everyone’s safety.
No work should be carried out in any household which is isolating or where an individual is being shielded, unless it is to remedy a direct risk to the safety of the household, such as emergency plumbing or repairs, and where the tradesperson is willing to do so. In such cases, Public Health Wales can provide advice to tradespeople and households.
No work should be carried out by a tradesperson who has coronavirus symptoms, however mild.
Payments should be made electronically where possible.

Everyone is instructed to comply with the regulations issued by the Government in relation to coronavirus, in order to protect both themselves and others.

Executive Board Member for Public Protection Cllr Philip Hughes said: “We appreciate this is a worrying and confusing time for businesses and our officers are here to help.

“If you would have any concerns or would like further advice with any coronavirus-related issues, please get in touch.”
