CEREDIGION County Council is required by Welsh Government to undertake a Childcare Sufficiency Assessment (CSA) every 5 years.

The Council must gather the views of parents, carers and employers, as well as children and young people on the availability of childcare provision in the county for 0-17 year olds. This will be achieved through different surveys made available during October.

Residents’ views are very important and we would like to know more about your experiences of using childcare providers which are registered with Care Inspectorate Wales, and use of unregistered childcare like nannies, after school clubs and some activity/sports clubs; or to let us know of any barriers to accessing local childcare.

The responses to the surveys will help the Council fulfil its duty to assess the local childcare market and to develop a realistic and robust picture of parents’ current and future needs for childcare.

Councillor Catrin Miles, Cabinet Member for Schools, Lifelong Learning and Skills, Support and Intervention, with responsibility for Childcare said: “It’s important that parents, carers, employers and other stakeholders – as well as children and young people – have the opportunity to express their views. This is an opportunity for them to identify where the gaps in childcare provision exist. Ceredigion County Council will work with appropriate partners to develop a five year strategic plan to address the issues raised and to develop and support an appropriate and comprehensive service that meets the needs of our families.”

The Parent/Carer survey will be available from 1 October until 25 October 2021.

For further information or a paper copy of the survey call the Contact Centre on 01545 570881 and ask for the Childcare Unit.

The information collected will be included in reports published on the Welsh Government and Ceredigion County Council website.
