A FORMER school closed nearly a decade ago will be the next site earmarked for new council houses.
Local member Cllr Michelle Bateman welcomed the move to transfer the Hayscastle school site to the council’s Housing Revenue Account following its use as a storage facility.
Cllr Bateman, cabinet member for housing, said it was “well overdue” at Monday’s meeting (December 2).
It could see around 20 to 24 units of accommodation built on the 1.88 acre site as part of the council’s plans to build and acquire more than 300 additional homes over the next five years.
Former school sites in Milford Haven and Johnston have already been appropriated for council housing.
The Cranham Park development at the former Johnston CP School site will be the first scheme to be developed and work will be commencing on site shortly.
The councils general fund will receive £250,000 – as determined by a District Valuer as market value – from the Housing Revenue Account (HRA).
Construction on the Hayscastle site would be subject to the demolition of existing buildings and how it will be developed is still to be determined, with discussion ongoing with potential partner organisations.
The site is adjacent to Y Glyn, which is a 2011 housing development of 12 two bedroom properties.
