Jane Dodds is first Parliamentary candidate in Wales to sign Rural Powerhouse Pledge

JANE Dodds has become the first Parliamentary candidate in Wales to sign the Country Land and Business Association’s new Rural Powerhouse Pledge.

The CLA’s new campaign will see it write to every Parliamentary candidate in every constituency in England and Wales asking them to pledge support for the Rural Powerhouse.

The Rural Powerhouse pledge consists of five key themes: a fully connected countryside, a planning system designed for rural communities, profitable and sustainable farming, investment in skills and innovation and a simpler tax regime.

Jane Dodds, Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats and Parliamentary Candidate for Brecon and Radnorshire said:

“I am really proud to be supporting the CLA’s Rural Powerhouse campaign, calling for a fully connected countryside and a new approach to our rural economy.

“Our rural economy has such great potential, we just need to unlock it and revolutionise our agricultural industry. The rural economy contributes around £250 billion to the wider economy and, if we get things right, could contribute even more.

“But to do this we need to change things. We need to support growth and innovation while ensuring our tax and planning systems work for the benefit of our rural communities.

“I look forward to working with the CLA and others so that we can capitalise on the huge potential we have before us and build a true rural powerhouse here in Wales.”
