PLAID Cymru MP for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr, Jonathan Edwards welcomed Rob Bamforth and Dave Atkinson of the Ferryside Lifeboat crew for an Afternoon Tea Reception in the House of Commons this week.
The Ferryside Lifeboat serves the estuary, with its volunteer crew operating 24/7 with the Coast Guard to save lives at sea. As an independent lifeboat it receives no funding from the RNLI but is solely reliant upon the public and businesses to keep it operational.
At the event, representatives of the RNLI were in attendance together with lifeboat volunteers and business leaders to discuss the issues which affect all lifeboats.
Jonathan Edwards MP said:
“The tremendous work undertaken by the dedicated team at Ferryside Lifeboat must not go unnoticed. As an independent lifeboat, they’re entirely dependent on donations to stay operational and, as they are volunteers, every penny donated is used to save lives.
”I was delighted to welcome Rob and Dave to Parliament as a part of the first gathering of representatives of independent lifeboats, to discuss networking and collaboration, the common challenges and raise wider political awareness of the importance of fundraising and grant support.
“I continue to champion the vitally important service they provide to both constituents and visitors – and I urge everyone to support their campaign.”
