Labour unveils Keir Starmer’s first party political broadcast

TODAY, Wednesday (Sep 23) Labour unveils its first party political broadcast since the election of Keir Starmer as UK Leader.

The new broadcast tells the story of people’s experiences during the coronavirus pandemic in conversations Keir has had with members of the public in recent weeks. It will also introduce Keir – where he came from, his values and his love for our country.

Standing outside his childhood home, he will say: “Together we can make Britain the best place to grow up in and the best place to grow old in.”

Filming took place over the summer across the United Kingdom, including locations across Wales.

Keir visited Glyn Roberts and his family at their farm in Betws-Y-Coed, Conwy. Glyn is the president of the Farmers’ Union of Wales.

In Mold, Flintshire, he visited local businesses with Hannah Blythyn MS to hear about the tremendous community and Welsh Labour Government response to coronavirus.

Other locations include Edinburgh, Stevenage, Birmingham, Chesterfield, as Keir toured the country.

Praising the leadership of Mark Drakeford and the difference that Welsh Labour makes in government, he will say: “This pandemic has also shone a light on how different things can be with Labour.

“In Wales, Mark Drakeford and his team have protected the NHS, and been careful and cautious in dealing with Coronavirus.

“Businesses have been supported with the most generous package anywhere in the UK. Families have been helped to put food on the table. Teachers, parents and the government have worked together to get children back to school.

“Despite the fragility of our economy, Wales has shown there is a better way.”

Narrating the film, Keir Starmer says: “I love this country. I’m proud of this country, of all it has achieved and all it will go on to achieve.

“This country has given me so much. An NHS that cared for my mother for much of her life. The chance to be the first in my family to go to university, to go on into the law and to lead our Crown Prosecution Service for five years.

“I want these opportunities to be available to everyone: in every village, town and city. In every region and nation. Whatever your age, background or ethnicity.”

On his vision for the United Kingdom, he will say:

“I profoundly believe that a better future is possible for this country. A future built on decency, fairness, opportunity, compassion and security.

“The Labour Party is under new leadership and this is our mission: to win the trust of the British people, so that together we can forge that better future. So that together we can make Britain the best place to grow up in and the best place to grow old in.”
