Lead officer sought help get key coronavirus/health messages across to BAME communities

IF you’re good at building relationships with black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) communities and have a knack for getting messages across, Swansea Bay University Health Board is keen to hear from you.

It is recruiting a BAME outreach lead for a project which involves  communicating key coronavirus messages about testing, contact tracing and vaccinations – and signposting people to health services on offer in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot.

The job advert said Covid has had a “huge and adverse” impact on the BAME population, and that health and social care messages haven’t reached it as effectively as other communities.

The successful candidate is expected to gain the trust of BAME communities, and to break down barriers relating to Wales’s Test, Trace and Protect programme.

The post, which is for four months initially but could be extended, is being funded by the Welsh Government. It is one of many public sector vacancies in the area at present.

A four-month post is being advertised for a Test, Trace and Protect project manager, while another is for a mass vaccination clinical supervisor from March to the end of November.

Other vacancies include a specialist dietitian and a consultant vascular surgeon at Swansea’s Morriston Hospital, a clinical psychologist at Neath Port Talbot Hospital, and a healthcare support worker for a district palliative care team.

Swansea Council, meanwhile, has 17 apprenticeships starting in September for budding plasterers, carpenters, electricians, plumbers and bricklayers.

The authority’s drain cleaning team needs a full-time labourer, while the community mental health team is recruiting a part-time welfare officer to provide support to people with complex conditions in the north of Swansea.

A number of temporary social workers are also needed in the adult services department, while someone with a qualification in ecology or landscape design and experience in planning is required to fill a communities and nature project officer post.

The nature officer job will involve the implementation of biodiversity, heritage and sustainable tourism projects in the Gower Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the delivery of a nature recovery plan for the area.

Neath Port Talbot Council is recruiting school cleaners, a cook, kitchen assistants and a senior highway inspector, among other roles.

If your weekends are free and you have good people skills, Margam Crematorium needs an attendant for Saturdays and Sundays.

“The role involves providing an efficient and respectful service to bereaved families and to provide assistance in the chapel, office and crematorium,” said the job advert.
