Lidl in Aberdare handed improvement notice for selling Covid restricted goods

THE Lidl store on Gadlys Road was handed an improvement notice by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council for selling certain items against coronavirus regulations.

The notice said that an officer observed on February 21 at 11.30 am that the store was selling children’s toys and foldable storage boxes.

It said that it, therefore, failed to take “reasonable measures to minimise the risk of exposure to coronavirus.”

The notice advised the store to not expose for sale any goods other than those allowed under the regulations.

It also said it should close or mark off part of the premises to prevent customer access to restricted goods.

Businesses with an improvement notice are given 48 hours to correct the issues that have been highlighted or further enforcement action is considered. including the option to issue closure notices.

A spokesperson for Lidl said:

“At Lidl GB our colleagues continue to work tirelessly to ensure that everyone can continue to access all the products that they need, despite these exceptional circumstances.

“We have been working closely with the local council regarding our Aberdare store and have since removed the products identified from the store and taken the opportunity to reiterate the product groups that may be sold in Wales to our teams.”
